Turtle Shell

On Friday Willa was fitted for her prosthetic to assist in compressing the organs back inside her abdomen. The prosthetic looks like a frisbee but when it is on Willa she looks like she is wearing a backwards turtle shell.

The turtle shell sits atop the wrapped omphalocele and is held in place with a strap and some strong velcro. The velcro will be tightened slowly over time. The only time we are to remove the "shell" is when we need to change her om dressing and for baths.

One thing, the shell will make certain clothes impossible for Willa to wear. One item we quickly nixed was the open sleeping gown with elastic at the bottom. Not easy to stretch the elastic over the hump of the  shell. We had our first diaper mishap due to the gown. I'm unsure if she could wear pants and a top. The shirt would have to be a larger size than the pants. I think most shirts would look like a crop top.
